Meet Scarlett!
Scarlett had a large mast cell tumor removed from her back left leg. The tumor itself ended up being 8mm, with no room for clean margins. The biopsy came back and it is a malignant tumor. Though malignant cancer, it is a low grade tumor so we are very hopeful. Our next step is to bring her to an oncologist to see which steps are necessary to help her out (which may include radiation).
A little back story on this sweet girl. Bull Breed Rescue rescued her and noticed a lump on her back leg. She had been abandoned in a house, and left for dead. She came to them emaciated and in poor health, but besides the cancer, she has flourished with love and proper medical attention. So far, Scarlett has had full body x-rays to make sure the cancer has not metastasized, extensive blood work, cytology, an ultrasound on her spleen (which has shown to be a little spotty, which is another issue we have to check out), an ultrasound on her bladder (and the walls have been thickened due to improper care and neglect, so she has developed crystals and is on expensive medical food), and the surgery. So far, Scarlett’s vet bill is over $4,000.00. They are unsure of the costs to come with oncology.
