Many of us human folks are enjoying the found glories of essential oils. Weather we use them to relax or for medicinal purposes, they’re becoming a huge part of many households.
But…can essential oils be used on our furry friends too? The answer is YES! However, we ALWAYS recommend that you speak to your vet before trying anything new on your pet. Also, always make sure you are buying HIGH quality oils. DoTERRA is a great brand quality oils you can trust.
So, what are some essential oils for your pets and how do you use them? We found some great information at Weed ’em and Reap!
They list some common issues dog’s face, and some of the oils that can help. One being ear trouble:
5 drops of Lavender – 45 cents
5 drops of Melaleuca – 40 cents
5 drops of Geranium – 55 cents
(Mix the above ingredients in 1 TBS. of coconut oil. After cleaning the ear with a natural cleaner, use a Q-tip to rub the essential oil mixture in the ear, being careful not to put the Q-tip in past where you can see it- Do this twice a day until you see healthy skin.)
Have a nervous or anxious pet? Try adding a few drops of lavender to their collar or diffusing it in the air to help promote relaxation and calmness. You can also apply a few drops to your pet’s skin, but make sure to dilute the oil with coconut oil or other carrier oil first. This helps reduce sensitivity or possible skin rashes.
There are endless possibilities when it comes to oil combinations, and sometimes you’ll just have to try a few out to see what works best for your pup. Just remember to check with your vet first, and test in small areas if you are applying topically first. 🙂
